NxtGen- A Customers Opinion
January 27, 2012 // 13 CommentsAfter a very successful product launch yesterday, we are already receiving some great feedback from customers new and old. We will be shortly updating and adding many of your comments to the testimonials section of our site, but until then here is a great example of just one of the customer emails we have received.
Just received your nxtgen gu10 non-dimmable warm white lamps that I ordered yesterday. Finally we are there, it seems! I’ve ordered at least half a dozen different GU10 led lamps from different suppliers (including your previous SMD 5050 version, which I sent back because the colour rendering was unpleasant – I’m very sensitive to this, and done goodness knows how much research and reviews reading online, but this one really, finally, ticks all the boxes:
- Properly bright – really a 50w replacement.
- Good colour rendering (I’m really sensitive to this) – whiter than halogen but an even spectrum, clean light.
- Sensible beam angle – not too narrow like many of the Cree lamps but not an unfocussed flood, like most SMD lamps.
- Instant on.
- Same size as traditional halogen (or close enough that it would make no difference to 99% of fittings).
- Aesthetically okay – they do look quite different from a halogen or a Cree (which looks fairly similar to halogen) but your new lens does make them much more acceptable.
- A bearable price.
The only thing that remains to be answered is their longevity. This is something that annoys me still (not unique to SimplyLED, of course). This lamp is rated at 35,000 hours. If the lamp were left on 24/7 (so not remotely typical usage) that’s a whisker (a day and a bit) under four years… so why do you only stand behind your product for 12 months? Even if 35,000 hours is the mean or the median fail point, if it’s remotely accurate you ought to be able to offer, say, a three year replacement warranty without any fear of losing out and it would give customers much greater confidence in the product’s claims. As it stands, my usage is probably 3-4 hours per day so, if the lamp fails after a couple of years I will definitely be out of pocket compared to sticking with halogens.
But that’s my only grumble… and I’m gambling for now as I’ve just ordered another five.
Kind regards,
Dan

These lights are fantastic! They are much brighter than the original version. In addition the colour rendition is much better!
I highly recommend them!
Don
After replacing my normal lamps with these LED ones I was surprised and very impressed, these really are a direct replacement for old 50 Watt halogens! In fact they are much brighter.
Its a shame there isnt a dimmable version.
I ordered one to try out last week to replace my 50 watt halogen lamps.Wow great light, great wide beam and sharp clear light, extremely pleased, i have tried a few others but no comparison to this,i will be ordering 40 lamps to replace all my halogen ones, also looking forward to the reduction in my electric bills !!!!

I have over 70 GU10s throughout my house, so thought I’d investigate how well these bulbs work – hoping could save me a fortune in electricity!
I ordered 6 warm light ones to pilot in a single room and have to say I’m delighted with them so far!
Delivery took 2 days rather than overnight as advertised, but even then still quick!
The bulbs fit well into the sockets with almost identical length to the halogen ones replaced. Admittedly whilst not as visually pleasing as the halogens, they don’t look out of place when turned off – and actually look better when switched on.
The light flow is far better than I expected. I think they are brighter than the 50w halogens and omit a lovely clean light with a good beam angle – works well on lighting a picture on the wall, whilst others create a good and broad enough beam to light the room without creating hot spots or dark patches.
Overall, I’m very pleased and will now look to replace the other 70 bulbs! Fingers crossed the stated lifetime of 30k hours is correct and I can look forward to 90% lower lighting bills and not having to buy another bulb for 3+ years!
Hi Paul,
We are really glad to hear that you are happy with our NxtGen GU10 lamps that you recently purchased.
With so many bulbs being replaced you should notice quite a significant saving on those energy bills!
If you are looking to place another order soon for the remaining bulbs, you should consider making a short 30 sec video testimonial for us, basically the same thing you have written down here, but on film. If you send in a testimonial and we decide to use it on the site, we will refund 10% off your latest order, plus a further 10% discount voucher which can be redeemed off your next purchase! There is some more information on what we would require here. Hope this helps.
Best wishes,
SimplyLED
I bought one of your GU10 NxtGen LED Non-Dimmable bulbs, together with five alternative bulbs from other vendors, to evaluate the suitability of LED bulbs compared with 50 Watt halogens.
The lumen rating of the LED bulbs I tried ranged from 370 to 525. At the kitchen work-surface height yours was the brightest! This is despite the fact that, from the lumen specification, it was at the bottom end of the range (the least bright was the one rated at 525 lumen)! The beam angle of 60 degrees is perfect for my needs.
I was pleased with both the intensity of the light and the colour (slightly whiter than the other bulbs) and I will be ordering another 10 bulbs within the next few days so that the kitchen will be fully converted to LED lighting.
Assuming that the overall result in the kitchen is satisfactory I will then be ordering another 7 for the hall and eight for the lounge. Eventually I have a further 20 to change but these are used rather less so the cost savings are not so high.
Thank you. Excellent service. The 10 bulbs arrived promptly. The kitchen is now brightly lit at an estimated saving of £100 per year off my electricity bill (calculated at 4 hours per day). The brightness is at least as good as the GU10 bulbs although sightly less bright than the MR16 bulbs I originally used before I replaced the downlighter fittings ready for the LEDs.
Now we have all the bulbs in place you can see the full effect. The warm white colour is ideal. The beam angle is perfect – no dark areas between lights. The light bulbs can be handled immediately after switching off – don’t try to do that with halogens!
Another order is about to be placed for a further 15 bulbs for the lounge and hall.
I loaned two bulbs to a colleague who was equally impressed so you may even get an order from him!
Ordered two of these last week to try and was very impressed by the brightness and colour. So much so on Sunday I ordered 10 more to complete the 12 I needed for the kitchen and utility. Brilliant service I must say, arrived next working day (Tuesday since the order would only have been processed on Monday) as promised and at the time specified. Full email communication of the progress as well. So I would highly recommend both the product and the company. I shall be checking of course to make sure they last the twenty something years promised at 4 hours / day though! Will report back in 2032 if I last that long!
I recently purchased 11 MR16 cool white LED lightbulbs of these to replace my 50 w halogens, 3 for the bathroom and 8 for the kitchen. I have to say that the results are far better than I was expecting. I live in Manchester but I am from a very sunny part of Spain and changing to this new light temperature boosts my mood to a very good level. What I really like is that at night you can see the real colours of all the objects under this light, I do not know the CRI of this light but I guess it must be of at least 80+. I would also like to change my current BC 22 and E14 CFLs for LEDs but so far I have not found anything powerful enough. The day you develop BC 22 and E 14 that offer the equivalent to at least 75W with a high CRI and Lumen output I will definitely buy them.
I purchased the Next Gen warm white approx 3 weeks ago. Delivery was prompt. I bought 5 lamps for the upstairs hall, we have 8 GU10 halogens and have tired of replacing failing bulbs.
I fitted tham straight away and the difference is amazing, I’d say the LEDs are brighter than the GU10 50w lamps. Even the kids have commented!
No problems in the first 3 weeks and I’m probably going to buy another 5 so that I can fit 3 to the hall to replace the halogens, but just want to wait to see if they are going to last.
It would seem that the new lights are finally matching the quality of the halogens (although not the price!).
Hi Simon,
Thanks for your great feedback! We’re glad to hear that you are enjoying our NxtGen lamps! Hopefully as more people invest in this great technology the price of LED lighting will continue to get more affordable. Even now your investment should eventually pay for itself with the large energy savings you will be making though- don’t forget that
Thank you again and hope to provide more great products to you in the future!
Kind regards,
Luke, SimplyLED.
I replaced six 50W halogens in the kitchen and a further four in the bathroom with a 10-pack of ‘warm’ MR16 NxtGens four months ago and no one noticed! At one tenth the power consumption, that is quite an achievement.
Unlike the halogens, the NxtGen bulbs direct 100% of the light forward and do not generate anything like as much waste heat. Unlike any LED bulbs I have used before, the light is just as bright, the same colour and the same dispersal as the halogens and the construction quality gives confidence they will in fact last as long as specified.
Only two very slight negatives: First for a “green” product, the bulbs were excessively over-packaged – a plastic bag inside an individual glossy cardboard box with the ten inside a further glossy cardboard box. Second, I cannot understand why the low-voltage version costs the same as the mains ones as they should be much simpler with fewer components.
