Lighting is one of the most important things to consider when it comes to retail stores. LED lighting could be just the thing to help you boost sales and save energy.

LED light bulbs are the most energy efficient choice when it comes to lighting and the bigger your store, the more savings you’ll make but choosing LED light bulbs for your store can do a lot more than cut your energy bills.

With LED lighting you can choose the colour temperature of the lights. Daylight and Cool White would be the best colour choice for your retail store. The brightness of the light has been shown to make people feel more awake, lifting their mood and could make them stay longer as they won’t have a rushed, urgency to leave as tired people can have. It can also boost the happiness of your staff resulting in more productivity and an increased chance of sales.

Another good reason to choose Cool White and Daylight is if you’re selling clothes or jewellery the colour of the light will show the true colours of the clothes and will produce the best sparkle from your jewellery. LED light bulbs provide a better quality light and have a high Colour Rendering Index (CRI) which means they are better for seeing the true colours of objects. Research has also shown that lights with a high CRI cast a more flattering light making customers feel better in the clothes/jewellery/make-up. As most LED light bulbs have such a high CRI many manufacturers don’t include them in the description – so don’t worry if there isn’t a CRI rating, the light quality will still remain high.

Even though the colour of the Daylight and Cool White light is bright bringing a slight dimming to the lights can be a good idea as too bright can be too daunting and a slightly dimmer light results in a more relaxed shopping attitude and helps to draw attention to products you want to showcase.

First impressions count as a customer’s fist impression will determine whether or not they enter your store. Research has shown that better lighting will make more people enter your store. A study, conducted by Merchant Mechanics at GNC health and nutrition stores, found that 3.7% if passers by were attracted to enter the store when the lights where brighter as opposed to 2.1% of passers by when the lights were lower. A National Lighting Bureau study found that after a new lighting plan was implemented ‘traffic counts increased by one third, sales increased by 38% and profits increased by 19%’.

Another important part for lighting to play, is when it comes to highlighting the key features of your store. The right lighting is key to highlighting your products to their full potential as well as drawing the eye in. You can do that by being creative with spotlights for small displays and AR111s for larger displays. Coloured spotlights could make a more interesting display and therefore by more eye-catching for the customers but should be used sparingly.

I have an ‘address light’ that uses a 60w incandescent bulb powered by 120V A/C.
If I can find one or more LED lights that would physically fit in the ‘address light
case, ‘ Could I put the LED light (s) in the case and then power them with appropriate
batteries. What size/type batteries and LEDS would I need to power the new set-up for say a
year or so?
Thanks ….
