For a long while, kitchen designers used halogen bulbs for light. They put halogens in downlighters, under cabinets and in lamp fittings.
By so doing, they created directional beams of light to enhance a kitchen’s look. As for kitchen appliances, designers tended to leave these alone. But times have changed. Designers now prefer LED light bulbs in every aspect of kitchen lighting.
Like everyone else, kitchen designers know the benefits of LED light bulbs. LED light bulbs save money by using less energy than halogen lights. They last for 50,000 hours. And unlike other energy-saving lighting such as compact fluorescent bulbs, they are mercury-free and stay cool to the touch.
LED light bulbs also have another feature. They are versatile. This is essential for any designer who wants to do something unique.
LED light bulbs and kitchen design briefs
These benefits suit design briefs for kitchens and kitchen appliances. For the latter, take kitchen cooker hoods as an example.
A few years ago Faber, an Italian kitchen appliance manufacturer, was determined to make the thinnest-ever cooker hood. It also wanted long-lasting, high-quality lamps in the hood with neutral white light. Hikari, a design company, rose to the challenge. Without hesitation, it opted for LED light bulbs.
Faber now use LED light bulbs across their range of appliances. LED light bulbs have proven themselves in the hot and steamy environment of the kitchen. These conditions have no effect on LED light output or bulb lifespan.
A growing number of homeowners are spurring on the efforts of kitchen appliance manufacturers and kitchen designers. Homeowners expect modern kitchens to have innovative LED lighting ideas.
LED light bulbs on splashbacks, along floors, and in and around appliances are just some of the ways lighting is transforming kitchens. The days of the halogen downlighter are fast receding.
